Introduction

SpaceX (Space Exploration Technologies Corp.) filed its S-1 with the US Securities and Exchange Commission on May 20, 2026, for an initial public offering on Nasdaq under the ticker SPCX.

The SpaceX IPO 2026 is shaping up to be one of the largest stock market listings ever.

But what people are curious about is “Can Indian Investors Invest in SpaceX and How?”

Keep scrolling as we break down the SpaceX IPO details, what SpaceX actually does, and how you can invest in SpaceX.

Because it's not just a rocket company anymore but much more than that.

What Does SpaceX Do: The Three Business Models

SpaceX's S-1 filing shows that the company (as of 2026) runs three separate businesses — Space, Connectivity, and AI. Each business line earns differently and carries different risks.

1. Space - Rockets and Spacecraft

This is what SpaceX is known for: Building and launching reusable rockets for commercial and government customers. Its workhorses are the Falcon 9, the Falcon Heavy, and the Dragon spacecraft that carries astronauts and cargo to the International Space Station.

As of March 31, 2026, SpaceX had completed around 650 orbital launches with an over 99% mission success rate on its Falcon rockets. Since 2023, it has launched more than 80% of the world's mass to orbit each year.

Their big project here is Starship — a fully reusable heavy-lift rocket. SpaceX expects to start using it for orbital payload delivery in the second half of 2026. In other words, almost every future plan depends on it.

2. Connectivity - Starlink Satellite Internet

SpaceX Starlink is the satellite internet service that delivers high-speed broadband using roughly 9,600 Low-Earth Orbit satellites. It reaches customers based across 164 countries and territories.

Likewise, SpaceX also runs a satellite-to-mobile service that connects regular smartphones in coverage dead zones across roughly 30 countries.

3. AI — xAI, Grok, and X

In February 2026, SpaceX acquired xAI, which brought in the Grok AI model and the X platform (formerly Twitter).

The AI segment has three pieces: AI compute infrastructure (COLOSSUS and COLOSSUS II, described as the largest AI training cluster on Earth at around 1 gigawatt of power), the Grok AI model, and X itself (around 550 million monthly active users).

The plan is to eventually move AI computing into orbit using SpaceX's own rockets, starting as early as 2028.

Key Risks to Be Aware Of

While SpaceX IPO has several plans for its upcoming fundraising, there are key risks to be aware of.

  • Founder dependency

SpaceX calls itself "highly dependent" on Elon Musk, who also runs Tesla and other ventures simultaneously.

  • Starship execution risk

Most growth plans hinge on Starship working at scale. There have been 12 test flights so far, including three failures in early 2025 before later recovery.

  • AI cash burn

The xAI merger involved a AI capital spending of $7.72 billion, of which $2.47B was operating loss in Q1 2026 alone.

  • Government and geopolitical exposure

Around one-fifth of FY2025 revenue came from US federal agencies. The S-1 also notes the 2024 Brazil order froze Starlink's local assets, showing how Musk's other ventures can affect SpaceX.
